Liebster Award – 2

I was nominated by the wonderful buzybritney2oo9 for the Liebster award last month. I know I am late but somehow it kept slipping from my mind.

This is my second Liebster award and I am so glad that people are liking the tit-bits I post.

Link to my nominator’s blog: Do visit her blog I am sure you’ll love it.

Answers to questions by buzybritney2oo9:

1) What is one aspect you would change about your life and why?

I think I would change my career. It’s not that I do not love my job as a software engineer. I do love it. But I think I would be happier teaching kids. Someday I would definitely be teaching somewhere. 🙂

2) Who is your fashion or beauty icon and what do you like about them?

Hands down “Deepika Padukone” – a bollywood actress. She rocks every outfit – Indian, western; every hairdo; every makeup. I think her fashion and beauty sense is flawless.

Another person I admire is “Jennifer Lawrence”. She is fab and I love her new haircut.

3) If you could change one thing about the world we live in what would it be and why?

I would love to see women being respected in every walk of life. Whether she is a homemaker, a student, a lawyer, a doctor, educated or not she deserves respect. Men should be taught right from a small age to love and respect women. I believe then there would be no crimes against women.

4) What one trend from when you were younger do you wish would come back?

I was definitely not into fashion and beauty when I was younger. But if you were to ask me which trend I wish wouldn’t come back I would definitely not want to see the trend with dark lipliners back. It was a trend to wear a dark brown lipliner with nude lipstick. I somehow never liked it then and glad it went out of fashion.

5) If there is one cosmetic item that you could not live without what would it be?

I cannot live without my Kajal.

6) What is one wish you have for your child(ren)?

I want my children to not tolerate anything wrong done to them and if it’s a guy I would definitely wish he respects women

7) What is one trend that appeared that made you wonder what they were thinking?

The trend with dark lipliners and light lipstick like I mentioned in my earlier question.

8) Natural eyes or smokey eyes?

Natural eyes.

9) What is one high end product that you would love to have?

I would love to have a Dior handbag and I would definitely buy it someday.

10) If you had to choose between your makeup or nail polish what would you choose?

Nail polish.

I liked the packaging. It comes in a nice cardboard box with a magnetic flap and “My Envy Box” printed on top of it and it can be reused to store articles of my choice.

Overall Thoughts

I am quite impressed with the brands. They actually did include high-end brands. But I am a little disappointed about the size of the samples I would have appreciated if they could provide us with a decently sized sample or may be travel size products.

The pack of playing cards is a small addition or bonus to the 5 products that they provided. But I guess girls like me would have preferred a bonus in the form of another product sample or may be chocolates 🙂

You can subscribe for the “My Envy Box” by requesting an invite here. A monthly subscription is priced at INR 850.00

Maybelline Colossal Kajal

I have lost count of the number of Maybelline Colossal Kajals I have finished and I already have one more of this. I have reviewed the kajal here

Absolutely love this one.

Nivea Lemon & Oil Shower Gel

I love citrusy shower gels and this one is no exception. It makes me feel so fresh and smell really good after a shower. It didn’t dry out my skin. Overall, a good product. The only downside of this product is the presence of Sodium Laureath Sulphate (SLS).

Cost: INR 165 for 250ml

Dove Daily Shine Shampoo and Conditioner

I loved the Dove Daily Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. I found it mild and suited my hair pretty well. I will definitely purchase it again.

Again the downside of this is the SLS present in the shampoo and parabens present in the conditioner.

Cost: Shampoo – INR 220.00 for 375ml, Conditioner – INR 68.00 for 90ml

Vaseline Total Moisture

I am in love with this moisturiser. Again I have lost count of the number of bottles I have emptied. I have pretty dry skin and this moisturizer helps in keep my skin moisturized.

Cost: INR 145 for 300ml

Vaseline Healthy White Complete 10

I bought this product for it’s claim to protect from UVA & UVB. It is supposed to contain AHA and Vitamin B3.

Vaseline Healthy White Complete 10 does not have a SPF mentioned on it so I doubt it has any SPF at all. Also, it doesn’t help with moisturization for very dry skin like mine. I wouldn’t purchase this again.

Cost: INR 100.00 for 100 ml.

NOTW # 1- Maybelline Color Show – Keep-up-the-flame

Hello ladies!

I have decided to do one nail of the week post every week. So stay tuned for my NOTW series 🙂 I have not tried my hands at nail art yet. But I will do so soon in my future posts and will try to provide details on how I achieved the look as well.

For this NOTW post, I have worn one of my recent purchases from the Maybelline Color Show range. The shade is Keep-up-the-flame. It is a bright orangish red shade. I love nail polishes in the group of reds, oranges, pinks as I feel they brighten up your fingers.

In my Maybelline Color Show – Fiesty Fuschia post, I had raved about the formula and the finish. But I wasn’t very happy with the finish of this one. It wasn’t as opaque as I expected it to be.

The pictures were taken without flash and in sunlight.

P.S.: Sorry for the short post.. I am actually in a hurry to get ready to office..

How did the weekend go for you guys? I had a relaxing weekend. On Sunday, bf and I lunched at a Thai cuisine restaurant “Aroy” loved it. The ambience, service and the food were good.

Today’s post is about one of my most loved makeup products “The Mascara”. I love the way mascaras open my eyes and add definition to my eyelashes. I have decently long eyelashes and I do not fancy using falsies. So I am on the lookout for mascaras that add volume and length to my eyelashes.

My Opinion:

I use The Maybelling Volume Express mascara on a daily basis. It does add volume to my lashes but definitely not 7X the volume. Just one coat is usually sufficient to add volume to the eyelashes. But you can add a second coat before the first coat dries.  I use one coat of this and another coat of a lengthening mascara for a little length.

This mascara is definitely waterproof. In order to clean my eyes, I use the Johnson’s baby oil on a cotton pad and place it on my eyes for a few seconds so that the mascara loosens up and I don’t have to tug at my eyelashes to clean the mascara.

About the wand, the wand is slightly thick and it’s a little difficult to coat the eyelashes in the inner corner of your eyes and the eyelashes on the lower lid. Thankfully, I have never poked my eyes with the wand.

Another thing about mascaras is that you should change your mascaras after every 3 months. Some claim that the mascara dries up and that’s the reason to change it every 3 months. But, I never found my mascaras drying up instead I change it for hygiene purposes.

Cost: Rs 350.00

Would I recommend it? Yes, it is definitely a good product for the price

Would I buy it again? Yes.

Rating – 4/5 (-1 for the wand)

Maybelline Colossal Kajal – Review

Is there any beauty product that you cannot step out of the house without? For me it is the Kajal. I feel so incomplete if I do not apply my kajal. It is definitely the product that I would carry to the desert if asked to pick just one beauty product 🙂

Today’s product is the Maybelline Colossal Kajal. It is hands down one of the best products by Maybelline. I just love everything about it from the cost to the finish. Maybelline claims that it is “The deepest black Kajal, creates bold lines & is smudge free for up to 12 hours”

Maybelline Colossal Kajal

I use this kajal on my waterline and as an eyeliner as well when I am in a hurry. Otherwise, I love using liquid eyeliners. It glides around the eyes very smoothly. It doesn’t sting or make my eyes water. Just one swipe and you get a good intensity of the kajal. Without any touchups it easily stays put for 9 – 10 hours without smudging. Since it is smudge & water proof, removing this product quite a task. I use Johnson’s baby oil to effectively clear this from my eyes.

Maybelline Colossal Kajal – Swatch

The best part about this product is it’s packaging. It comes in a retractable tube which saves you the sharpening effort.

I have quite a few other kajals as well which I would be reviewing soon. But this one I will never get enough of. I would have bought umpteen number of this product ever since it was launched and I will continue buying it provided Maybelline doesn’t decide to stop the production of this darling.

Cost – INR 175

Rating – 5/5

Would I recommend it? – Definitely!

Would I buy it again? – There is no reason I shouldn’t be.

I would love to know through your comments what are your favorite Kajals.

Jovees Green Tea & Ginger Anti Tancream

Sunscreens play an important role in safeguarding our skin from the UVA and UVB rays of the sun. It took me some time to incorporate a sunscreen in my skin care regime. I somehow never liked the white cast that application of some of the sunscreens come with. Over time I realized the importance and started looking out for the perfect sunscreen. There have been quite a few duds and quite a few good products that I cam across. But none that I can call my Holy Grail sunscreen. I am still searching for you 🙂

Today’s post is about Jovees Green Tea & Ginger Anti Tancream. Jovees is an Indian brand and they have good products with natural ingredients. Since I have used this for over a month now I decided to share my thoughts on this product. Did it fare well? Was it a dud? Read on…

Jovees Anti Tancream

Ingredients: Green Tea extract, Ginger extract, Carrot juice, grape seed extract, Chamomile

Method of Use: Wash face preferably with cleansing milk. Apply a small quantity on face and neck daily in the morning and evening.

Cost: INR 145 for 50ml

Jovees calls it “A lightweight, dual purpose herbal formulation developed scientifically to ensure the herbs and botanical extracts used do not loose therapeutic properties thus ensuring optimum results. The sun’s rays contain two types of ultraviolet radiation that reach our skin: UVA and UVB. UVA radiation is what makes people tan while UVB radiation causes sun burns. This cream will help in protecting your skin from sun burns, tanning and premature ageing of skin. It shall also help make your skin look visibly fairer and even toned.”

My experience:

I use this in the morning alone. If I am going out, I use this and my foundation on top of it else I mix this with my foundation when I am a little lazy or running late. On days when my skin is looking clearer I use it alone. The best thing about this product is that there is no white cast once applied but it does make me look a little fairer (which I don’t mind ;)). It does get absorbed easily and gives a mattish finish. My skin does get oily around the T-zone but nothing that a little bit of compact or loose powder cannot fix.

Regarding it’s claims, I have not got tanned or sunburnt but again I don’t tan so easily.  Yes it does make my face look fairer. Also, the best part I did not breakout with this product.

Overall, a good product.

Rating: 4/5

Would I buy it again? No, I don’t think so. As I am still searching for my HG product 🙂

Would I recommend it? Yes, it’s a good product.

What sunscreen do you use? Have you found your HG sunscreen yet?

Maxfactor XPERIENCE Weightless Foundation

The festival season here has just got over. India celebrated Diwali with a lot of pomp and glory. The streets and houses were covered with lights and lamps. It was such a spectacular scene. There were also a lot of fireworks and sweets. On my part, I lit some beautiful candles in my house. We had a nice long weekend thanks to Monday being off 🙂 Now I am waiting for Christmas. Haven’t made up my mind on my Christmas outfit yet.. Have you guys decided on what your Christmas outfit will be?

Today I will be reviewing the Maxfactor XPERIENCE Weightless Foundation. I was strolling through a mall and chanced upon the Maxfactor counter. Until then, I had never used ANY product from the Maxfactor brand. Since my skin is oily/combination (my moody skin.. sigh!!) and acne-prone I was a little skeptical to try the foundation. But then the SA convinced me that it was an oil-free and weightless foundation and also claimed that a lot of women with acne-prone skin have bought it and loved it. The SA won and I asked her to apply it on my face. At that time, I had relatively clearer skin and my skin looked all glowy and flawless once it settled that I was sold. I picked up the shade Sandalwood 65.

Note: I am a MAC NC 42

Maxfactor XPERIENCE Foundation

What Maxfactor claims about this product?

Xperience Weightless Foundation containing natural jojoba extract for a lightweight feel and flawless look.

  • Contains cucumber water, sea buckthorn and rosehip.
  • Non-comedogenic – so it won’t clog pores.
  • Oil free and suitable for sensitive skin.
  • Dermatologically tested.
  • Contains SPF 10 to help protect your skin from the sun.

Cost: INR 850 for 30ml

Ingredients: I picked it up from the Maxfactor site

My experience:

I bought this product around 6 months ago. Like I told you when I bought this product, my skin was relatively better. It did make my skin look flawless. Now that I have a few blemishes on my cheeks, it does not provide coverage. I need to use this with a concealer if I want my skin looking flawless. When it comes to application, this product is pretty easy to work with. I use a pea-sized amount and use my clean fingers to work this product into my skin and I seal it with my TBS loose powder. It doesn’t take a lot of time to settle down. Also, it doesn’t seem to oxidize and stays intact on my skin even after 9-10 hours. It feels pretty light on my skin as well.

When I am in a hurry and do not have the time to wait between moisturizing and applying foundation, I mix this with my moisturizer. It’s pretty quick and looks natural as well. 🙂

Did I breakout with this product? No, I didn’t. But then again I think it differs from skin to skin

Would I recommend this? Yes, I would

Would I buy it again? I would once this product gets over.

I would love to know what are your favorite foundations or the ones that you are currently using..

Loreal Liss Ultime Perfecting Serum

I have been blessed with wavy, frizzy dark hair. Now I love my waves but I hate the frizz. In a bid to overcome my frizzy hair I try various products – shampoos, conditioners, serums, hair masks and anything else that claims to reduce frizz.

The last time I had visited my hair dresser, she asked me to give this serum a try and claimed that it would help control the frizz. Now, I had noticed her and the other hair dressers use this on their clients and thought why not and now I wonder why did I!

The Loreal Professional site calls it a Heat activated smoothing oil that reduces frizz and maximizes shine. This serum is meant for unmanageable frizzy hair. They claim that

This leave-in serum provides a long lasting, anti-humidity shield to control the hair and keep it frizz-free. The light, water-soluble formula, envelops the hair giving it a fabulous shine and controlled smoothness.

This serum is a light serum with a water-like consistency. I usually start by adding 1 pump to my towel-dried hair. If I feel I need more product to cover my hair I add another pump. I would suggest adding little by little of this product to your hair as you don’t want your hair to be weighed down by the serum. I apply this from the mid-length to ends.

Quantity – 125 ml

Price – INR 580.00

What this product did to my hair?

When I apply this on my towel-dried hair, it does feel soft. However the effect does not last long. Once my hair dries completely I feel the frizz returns. I did not notice any shine being added to my hair due to this product either.

Would I recommend this product?

Not if you have very frizzy hair like mine.

Would I buy it again?

Overall Rating

I would like to hear how you tackle frizzy hair and if you would recommend any product for frizzy hair.

Maybelline Color Show – Fiesty Fuschia – NOTD

I recently dropped into one of the Health & Glow stores and saw the new range of Maybelline Color Show nail polishes. They have launched 40 shades in this range. Being a nail polish freak I just couldn’t hold myself together and started picking up the various shades until my bf gave me a stare. He just doesn’t seem to understand why we girls need nail polish in the first place and even if we need why do we need so many. To make things worse he doesn’t seem to make out the difference between the various shades of pink, greens and oranges.. hmmpphh… Is it only me complaining or do you have the same story to tell?

I made a puppy face and picked up 3 shades and the one I am reviewing today is one among them 🙂 It’s the color Fiesty Fuschia.

I am in love with the color and the formula of the nail polish. It is quick drying and the clumsy me is able to apply it effortlessly and streak-free 🙂 With 2 coats it’s applied fully opaque. I applied a base coat of Sally Hansen -Miracle Cure (reviewed here) and two coats of the Fiesty Fuschia.

After 4-5 days of wear and regular household chores the color still looks good with minor chipping at the tips.

Overall, for a price of INR 75 I think this is a good buy. I will definitely recommend this to all you nail polish lovers 🙂

Rating – 5/5

Have you tried the Maybelline Color Show range? What are your favorite colors?
